Surgical site infection (SSI) is one of the most common complications of surgeries worldwide, with great impact on public health, with a significant incidence in gynecological surgeries, so it becomes of great importance the proper use of prophylactic antibiotics to reduce its occurrence and thus achieve adequate outcomes

Objective: The objective of this retrospective cohort study is to evaluate the association and differences in the use of two antibiotic regimens (Cefazolin and Cefazolin with Metronidazole) and the occurrence of ISO in a population of women undergoing hysterectomy for benign pathology at Hospital Universitario Mayor Mederi.

Key findings

From this study, it is expected to have relevant information that contributes to the knowledge of appropriate use of prophylactic antibiotics in gynecological surgeries for benign pathology and allows for better decision-making in future procedures in order to reduce the incidence of surgical site infection in a IV level of complexity hospital.
