Demographic and Clinical Characteristics of Hospitalized Patients with Pulmonary Embolism in a Hospital Network in Bogotá, Colombia

Introduction: Pulmonary embolism is a common and often fatal condition. Knowledge regarding its epidemiology in Colombia remains limited, and there are no updated studies assessing its presentation and progression in hospital settings.
Methodology: A descriptive study of cases identified in the registry of patients with acute thrombotic pulmonary embolism at Hospital Universitario Mayor, Bogotá – EPHUM [Ethics Committee Approval CEISH-2024049] between 2024 and 2025. Demographic variables, baseline clinical characteristics, targeted treatments, and in-hospital clinical outcomes will be described using absolute and relative frequencies, as well as measures of dispersion and central tendency.

Objective

To describe the demographic and clinical characteristics of patients with pulmonary embolism treated at Hospital Universitario Mayor - Méderi in Bogotá.

Key findings

The study aims to provide updated data on pulmonary embolism in Colombia, focusing on its clinical presentation and in-hospital outcomes. The findings will be made available to the institution and the scientific community through dissemination in clinical meetings and publication of the final document
