Description
Introduction: Distal pancreatectomy has had multiple applications over time, from chronic pancreatitis treatment to benign and malignant conditions affecting the pancreas. The surgical technique also has evolved, depending on the indications to be treated by this procedure. In Colombia and Latin America, there has not
been a series of cases describing the characteristics of patients undergoing distal pancreatectomy, and the demographic profile and surgical techniques used in this procedure remain unknown. Therefore, it is important to describe our experience at the Hospital Universitario Mayor Méderi, being a national reference
center for hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery, and with a high volume of pancreatic resections (> 30 pancreatic resections per year).
Materials and methods: Descriptive observational study of patients undergoing distal pancreatectomy at the Hospital Universitario Mayor Méderi between 2014 and 2024. A descriptive analysis of the results will be performed using absolute and relative frequencies and means of central tendency and dispersion.

Objective
To characterize the population of patients undergoing distal pancreatectomy at the Hospital Universitario Mayor Méderi in Bogotá, Colombia.
Key findings
To characterize the clinical and surgical variables and in-hospital postoperative outcomes of patients undergoing distal pancreatectomy, in order to describe the surgical approaches and their respective complication and morbimortality rates.
