Description

Infective endocarditis (IE) is a serious and life-threatening infection of the inner lining of the heart, predominantly affecting the heart valves. The complexity of IE requires a comprehensive understanding of its causal infectious agents, clinical presentation, diagnostic approaches, therapeutic strategies and prognostic factors.

Methodology: Descriptive observational study of patients with a diagnosis of IE treated at the Mayor Méderi University Hospital, with data derived from the institutional registry of Infectious Endocarditis ENDOMED. We will describe the microbiological and clinical profile, the therapeutic and surgical approach implemented and the outcomes at the level of in-hospital mortality and postoperative complications.

Objective

To describe the clinical and microbiological characteristics of patients with a confirmed diagnosis of infective endocarditis treated at the Mayer Méderi University Hospital between 2011 and 2025.

Key findings

It is expected to characterize patients with IE, describe the management strategies implemented and determine mortality in the study population.
