Proximal Femur Fragility Fracture Registry at Méderi

Project Details

Description

Advanced age, male sex, clinical comorbidities, pre–fracture residence, cognitive impairment, and time to surgery have been identified as significant predictors of postoperative mortality in older patients with proximal femur fractures.
Despite this mortality burden, there remains a substantial gap in primary fracture prevention: studies show that roughly 80–90% of adults do not receive adequate osteoporosis treatment, even in the setting of secondary prevention.
At Méderi, approximately 20 patients with proximal femur fractures undergo surgical intervention each month. An interdisciplinary team—comprising orthopedics and geriatrics specialists—works collaboratively to implement best practices for the management of fragility fractures.

Objective

To implement a registry of patients aged 65 and over who present with proximal femur fragility fractures and are treated by the Orthopedics and Geriatrics services of the Méderi Hospital Network.
