Registry of Hepatopancreatobiliary Interventions at Hospital Universitario Mayor-Méderi

Project Details

Description

The hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery service at Méderi Hospital has experienced exponential growth over the past eight years, as evidenced by the increasing number of patients evaluated and treated during this period. The service manages a wide range of conditions, from benign diseases such as biliary lithiasis and bile duct injuries to complex oncological conditions like pancreatic and liver cancer.
Establishing a high-quality registry to track patient outcomes, disease progression, and oncological results is of significant importance for the institution and the country. Such a registry would contribute to addressing the limited national and even international evidence on these pathologies. Currently, data on hepatopancreatobiliary conditions in Latin America are scarce, and as a national referral centre, Méderi's substantial patient volume provides a valuable opportunity to conduct impactful research.

Objective

To implement a registry of patients from the hepatobiliary surgery service who have undergone surgical interventions for malignant or benign pathologies.

Key findings

The HEPAROG registry aims to thoroughly characterise patients undergoing interventions for hepatobiliary pathologies, monitor surgical and oncological outcomes, identify prognostic factors, evaluate adherence to clinical protocols, and optimise the quality of care. Additionally, it will enable the generation of relevant scientific evidence, strengthen national and international collaborative networks, and support public health decision-making through reliable data. This registry will also contribute to institutional capacity building through training in data analysis and support for the monitoring and long-term follow-up of patients, enhancing knowledge of these pathologies in Colombia and the region.
