Project Details
Description
Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy are a group of conditions that globally complicate 3–5% of pregnancies, with higher complication rates reported in developing countries due to limited access to optimal healthcare services. In Colombia, as of September 2021, a 32.7% increase in early maternal mortality was reported compared to 2020. Of the 499 maternal deaths recorded in the epidemiological bulletin, 10.7% were attributed to hypertensive disorders, and 9.7% to postpartum haemorrhage. Globally, an estimated 63,000 maternal deaths annually are secondary to preeclampsia. Despite being widely studied, many of the pathophysiological mechanisms of these disorders remain poorly understood, posing challenges to the development of effective diagnostic, management, and follow-up strategies.
Objective
To implement a registry of patients with preeclampsia treated at the Hospital Universitario Mayor-Méderi from January 1, 2019.
Key findings
Providing relevant scientific information in this area of study will enhance understanding of this condition and enable better clinical characterisation of patients diagnosed with preeclampsia at the Hospital Universitario Mayor-Méderi.
