Description

The complication that occurs during pregnancy, childbirth or within 42 days following the termination of pregnancy, and that puts the woman's life at risk, is defined by the World Health Organization as extreme maternal morbidity. Event with devastating consequences for patients, society and the health system, due to the increase in maternal mortality, neonatal mortality and the costs it generates. In Colombia, the analysis of data from the last decade revealed a constant increase in the rate of extreme maternal morbidity per 1,000 live births, going from 6.9 in 2012 to 54.7 in 2022.
