Abstract

The prolonged postoperative ileus (PPI) is a pathology that affects quality life of the patient because increases the infection risk, hospital stay, and eventually causes death. It's also a financial burden to health system resources. Its origin is multifactorial, in Colombia the factors for this pathology are unknown. Some of these factors were described as the associate with PPI after a colorectal surgery. Methods Retrospective cross-sectional descriptive study with an analytical component, founded in the clinical records review of patients with a colorectal surgery from January 1th 2018 to December 31th 2019. Results Were including 205 patients, the frequency of PPI on population studied was of 40% (n=83). An analytic descriptive of these population was made about 53% (n=44) were men. Of that sample a 61% (n=51) were between 60 to 79 years old. The type 2 diabetes mellitus was present on the 23% (n=19) of patients and it was found related with PPI develop (OR 2,43 IC 95% 1,09-5,41) p= 0,02. As the same, the 76% required remifentanil during the intraoperative procedure and was related with PPI OR 2,97 (IC 95%1,22-7,23) p= 0,01. Conclusion: the Type 2 diabetes mellitus and using opioids during intraoperative procedure were related with PPI as a factors, could be including in a management of the patient undergoing a colorectal surgery
