Abstract
Stress or urge urinary incontinence is a frequent symptom in patients with genital prolapse who will be brought to vaginal colpopexy. Surgical treatment of genital prolapse seeks to improve symptoms, restore the anatomy of the pelvis and improve the quality of life of patients. This study seeks to describe the results regarding urinary symptoms and quality of life in patients undergoing vaginal colpopexy in a fourth-level hospital in Bogotá. Methodology: descriptive cohort study of women operated on for genital prolapse at the Hospital Universitario Mayor during the years 2016 to 2018. The scores of the quality of life and symptoms of urinary incontinence UDI-6 and IIQ7 were described in patients before being taken to colpopexy vaginally, the first month and six months after surgery. Results: 77 patients underwent sacrospine colpopexy, of these additionally 87% underwent anterior colporrhaphy, 97.4% posterior colporrhaphy and 23.4% concomitant vaginal hysterectomy. The median overall IDU-6 score before the surgical procedure was 25 (RIQ: 8-37) and both at one month and at six months it was 8.3 (RIQ: 0-16). Similarly, the IIQ-7 scale score was lower in the postoperative period (Median: 0; RIQ: 0.5-6). Conclusion: Vaginal colpopexy seems to improve the quality of life and symptoms of urge urinary incontinence in women with genital prolapse.
