Abstract
Acupuncture forms part of Traditional Chinese Medicine as a complex medical system of alternative and complementary medicine. Acupuncture has been the subject of multiple research studies in distinct diseases that evaluate its efficacy compared with that of other standardized treatments. One of the most frequently reviewed subjects is pain management and, in this field, rheumatological diseases such as osteoarthritis, which until now had no cure, have been one of the most widely studied. Evidence supports the use of acupuncture in these diseases as a coadjuvant to the conventional treatment established to date.
