Abstract

Malignant hyperthermia is an autosomal dominant inherited disease characterized by a hypermetabolic response, with an exaggerated release of calcium from the sarcoplasmic reticulum, which can be triggered in the perioperative period by exposure to volatile anesthetics (halothane, isoflurane, sevoflurane and desflurane) and neuromuscular blockers. depolarizing (succinylcholine) life-threatening condition in 80% without the availability of dantrolene. However, the incidence of recrudescence is close to 20%, a rare and infrequent scenario, which the anesthesiologist managing a suspected case must consider guaranteeing critical monitoring for at least the next 24 hours.
