Abstract
Pain during labor is one of the main sources of expectation, anxiety and fear in pregnant women. Consequently, we usually opt for non-pharmacological measures such as acupuncture, a cost-effective, safe and affordable Traditional Chinese Medicine. After reviewing the literature, the importance of vital substances (Energy and Blood) during labor was stressed, as well as their connection with the analgesic effect of acupuncture. Similarly, it was observed that acupuncture favors vaginal delivery while reducing the oxytocin, analgesic and anesthetic dosages. However, further research on the use of acupuncture for dealing with pain during labor together with a holistic approach to Traditional Chinese Medicine is clearly necessary.
