Resumen
Introduction: Studies of use of medicines are essential to assess its effectiveness and safety in clinical practice. Hypertension is a prevalent disease that is part of cardiovascular risks and where there is a significant variability in pharmacological treatment. Objective: To assess the impact of a group of anti-hypertensive medications in patients with arterial hypertension. Materials and methods: Prospective descriptive study. It followed a cohort of patients with hypertension in 12 cities across Colombia, of the "Biomedical Registry of Clinical Outcomes for patients using medicines from a Colombian pharmaceutical company (RBDC)". Demographic, clinical, safety variables were measured. The information included against the original source of the records was validated. This program was approved by a human research ethics committee. Results: 293 received anti-hypertensive drugs, 210 (71.7%) received combination therapy. BP decreased from an average of 146 mmHg (IQR = 130-155)/85 (IQR = 79-91) at the outset of the study to 124 (120-130)/80 (78.5-84) and 120 (120-130)/80 (75-80) in the second and third control respectively, there was no report of adverse events. Conclusions: Antihypertensive drugs in combination therapy was the most widely used. A decrease of BP was observed in the control appointments carried out. No adverse effects were reported.
